Revamped patio and outdoor space coming to Bottle & Bean

Almost two years after the coffee and wine shop opened in the Chandler neighborhood of Ocotillo, Bottle & Bean are celebrating an outdoor expansion with a revamped patio and outdoor space. The new lawn space will better serve customers in the months where we can enjoy the great outdoor weather from October to May. The new look will also increase the seating capacity, offer shaded tables with cushioned seats and include a turf lawn area great for picnics, kids to play in and group gatherings.

“Bottle & Bean has become a community gathering spot within Downtown Ocotillo. By expanding the restaurant’s outdoor footprint, we’re striving to create a vibrant, ‘Central Park’ type of atmosphere, perfect for relaxing and socializing,” said Spike Lawrence, owner of Bottle & Bean. 

The unveiling of the revamped patio and outdoor space is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2nd from 4-7 p.m. The public is welcome to celebrate the new look with food & drink specials, entertainment, raffles and giveaways. Complimentary wine tastings, a $25 pairing offering on a Piper charcuterie board and bottle of wine are available in the restaurant and in the wine shop, buy a bottle of wine and get $15 off a second bottle. Local musicians Tim Friedlich and Kristin Bright will entertain guests and artist David Wilhelmsen will be creating custom watercolor paintings of guests. A family’s journey from France to opening a Chandler restaurant

When Mairead and Fabrice Buschtetz met working in a Paris hotel in 1998 they never knew their lives journey would have them opening a successful French restaurant in suburban Phoenix. Coming to Paris from Ireland, Mairead worked in hotel administration and Fabrice fresh out of a Paris culinary school the two married two years later and started a family and pursued Fabrice’s desire to live in the United States. The first few years brought the family of five to Veracruz Mexico, Dallas, Miami back to France before a Google search had them packing up to move to Arizona in 2013.

Once settled they followed Fabrice’s passion to open an auto repair shop. Yes, a culinary trained chef shifted gears to open an auto repair shop but Mairead noticed he was not as happy or “in his element” as he was in the kitchen cooking for family, friends and others. They then opened Cuisine & Wine Bistro  in Gilbert in 2015 then opened a second location in 2016 in Chandler. They operated both under the Cuisine & Wine Bistro banner until 2020. They rebranded the Gilbert location to B Gastrobar in 2020 when they were basically closed during the pandemic then sold B Gastrobar in 2022 to focus on CWB. And why not since the restaurant has become a favorite of locals looking for traditional French food and earning accolades from OpenTable and Wine Spectator over the years. An appearance on PBS Arizona’s “Check Please! Arizona” also helped them get the attention they deserved.

It’s a family business

Like most family-owned businesses the children wind up working in the business and that’s no different with the Buschtetz family. At one point all four of their children worked in some capacity with one son following in dad’s footsteps in the kitchen, another as sommelier building a world class wine list acknowledged by Wine Spectator awards in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Their daughter can be found serving guests on the dining room floor on a regular basis. They also consider their employees, 12 of which long term employees’ part of the family too.

What’s next on their journey?

Down to one restaurant the workaholic parents didn’t want to miss an opportunity and later this month they will open “Quiche and Pies” a few miles north at Alma School & Ray Rd. The new bakery/cafe/coffee shop will be open 6 days a week from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Selling quiche and pies isn’t new to the Buschtetz’s as they’ve been selling them online for the past few years. Guests can expect up to 9 quiches & chicken pot pie and 10 pies on the rotating menu.

The families journey as to where to put down roots in the United States has proven successful as their “hidden secret” restaurant is no longer hidden or a secret.

Barro’s Pizza replaces Chandler location with a new one

The locally owned pizza restaurant has been at its original Chandler location for over 20 years and the family felt it needed a change. They’re moving to a new location in the Ocotillo neighborhood at Queen Creek and Alma School Rd. beginning Tuesday January 24th. The closing location will be open right to the end closing at the end of service on the 23rd. The new modern decor will still have the comfy neighborhood feel customers have come to over 40 years.

Ling & Louie’s Lunar New Year celebration starts tomorrow

As featured last month the north Scottsdale Asian fusion restaurant celebrates the Year of the Rabbit for 2 weeks. The celebration with food and drink specials start tomorrow with all details found in here.

Sunday grilled cheese pop up at Garden Bar

Fates Bread Co. will be making gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches every Sunday at the downtown Phoenix cocktail bar. Starting at 5 p.m. until they sell out guests can choose from a BLT Melt or The Secret Garden. Sundays also feature industry specials for hospitality workers. Reservations are suggested for all visits.

Jackson Family Wine dinner next week at Ling’s Wok Shop

Day Drinker Devil Ride takes place Saturday July 30th

Bike riders and day drinkers meet up next Saturday at Pedal Haus Brewery in Tempe for a 10-mile ride starting at 8 a.m. The 2nd annual ride raises money for the non-profit Rob Dollar Foundation that helps bring awareness for bike safety. The “fun” ride goes through Papago Park and mid-way through there will be a hydration station.

Tickets are $5 with your first Day Drinker Light Lager & hydration station beverage included. $15 gets the above and a commemorative ” I Survived the Devil Ride” t-shirt. Happy Hour at Pedal Haus is from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. with a raffle at 12:30 p.m.

Dairy Queen’s “Miracle Treat Day” benefits Phoenix Children’s Hospital

Thursday July 28th over 80 Dairy Queen’s around Phoenix, central and northern Arizona donate $1 of every Blizzard sold to a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. PCH is the local hospital to benefit from the nationwide event. The 2022 goal is $90,000 for the hospital’s Hope Fund.

French wine tasting at GenuWine Arizona next Thursday

The wine bar in downtown Phoenix invites guests to join them between 6 – 8 p.m. to taste and learn about French wine. The July 28th tasting is free to wine club members and $10 to non-members. Press Coffee opens newest location in Ocotillo

To celebrate the new location today through Sunday the local roaster will donate $1 of all drip coffee’s to HopeKids. The local non-profit helps children and their families battling life threatening diseases with hope and support. The new location is located at 1085 W. Queen Creek Rd. Chandler.

Angry Crab Shack to donate to veterans in July

All 15 Arizona locations will donate $.25 from every dine-in guest to Arizona Housing Coalition’s Arizona Veterans StandDown Alliance. Their goal is to raise $75,000 during their 6th annual “You Dine, We Donate” campaign until July 31st. Guests can also purchase merchandise with a portion of the proceeds donated as well.

Throwback Tiki Tuesday party at Liberty Station Tavern

Tom Kaufman opens Bottle & Bean Coffee House & Wine Shop in Ocotillo

Restaurateur Tom Kaufman and his business partner Spike Lawrence have single handily built the downtown Ocotillo restaurant scene. The south Chandler neighborhood can thank them for such restaurants as Rock Lobster, The Living Room, CHoP Chandler and Sea & Smoke. The pair have added the new Bottle & Bean Coffee House & Wine Shop to their collection of restaurants.

The new coffee shop and wine bar opens today serving scratch made breakfast and lunch created by Chef Chris George. Tom Kaufman has been in and around the valley’s restaurant and wine scene for more than 25 years opening Rancho Pinot Grille and Humble Pie before opening The Living Room and other concepts. A certified sommelier with a passion for wine he says, “At Bottle & Bean, we showcase a variety of wines from around the world, including many of my favorites. For our bottle-to-go offerings, we’re staying competitive with major retailers and passing along great value to wine enthusiasts.”. Beers and wine merchandise are also available and local coffee roaster Infusion provides the beans for coffee and espresso drinks.

The menu includes dishes such as a Quinoa Breakfast Burrito, Beefsteak Tomato Toast and a Southwest Chicken Sausage Frittata. Lunch offers sandwiches, salads and bowls including the Steak Sandwich and the Veggie Bowl. The restaurant is open from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. but can extend hours at night for private parties up to 50 people. Prix Fixe menus are available for $50, $70 & $90 per person for private dining.

The Bottle & Bean can seat up to 130 people inside and on the patio. Lawn seating offers lounge chairs and space for picnic like dining. It is located at 2577 W. Queen Creek Rd. Chandler 85248. For more information visit their website.
