A new Papago Brewing Company coming in early 2023

The brand lived on despite the closing of the original location a few years back to make way for re-development. That’s the story of Papago Brewing Company which was purchased in 2016 by Huss Brewing Company’s Jeff & Leah Huss who announced a new taproom will be opening in early 2023 in the former Brass Tap in Mesa Riverview.

“It’s always been my dream to reintroduce the Papago Brewing experience,” Leah Huss says. “Not a rehash or a replica of the old taproom, but a brand-new iteration. I really wanted to envision what Papago Brewing would look like in 2023, so we’ll still have elements of a traditional European-style beer pub and vintage furnishings, yet very fresh and forward-looking.”

The new Papago Brewing Company

Leah co-owned Papago Brewing Company opening it in 1999 and partnered with Jeff in 2013 to open Huss Brewing and was instrumental in helping to grow the Arizona craft beer scene. She has high praise for Brass Tap founder Jesse Rowe “They’ve been great stewards of the Mesa craft beer scene, and we’re excited to introduce Huss and Papago to the neighborhood.”

The new taproom is a passion project for the Huss’s and Jeff being a diehard Cubs fan; the taproom is a mile from the team’s Spring Training home at Sloan Park.

The new Papago Brewing Company will have 104 seats and will serve the full line of Huss Brewing beers along with other local beers and more. A rotating tap will pour 60 draft beers and packaged beer will be sold to-go. Small batch and experimental beers will feature along with popular beers from the past including Elsie’s Milk Stout and Hopago IPA. Shortly after opening a small menu of premium bar bites will be offered for lunch and dinner.

Papago Brewing Company will be at 1033 N Dobson Rd. Mesa. For more information visit their website.

Country music station KNIX honored with new Huss Brewing Co. cans

Country music and beer go together like baseball, peanuts & Cracker Jack’s.  and with that in mind owners Jeff & Leah Huss of Huss Brewing Co. are honoring Phoenix’s legendary country music radio station KNIX on its 50th anniversary.

To commemorate the milestone Huss will be putting their Scottsdale Blonde Ale in a special edition KNIX cans. The cans will make their debut at a Can Release Party at the Huss Brewing Co.’s Pop-Up Taproom in Desoto Central Market on Fri. March 30th from 4 p.m. – 7p.m.

The Scottsdale Blonde was chosen after KNIX listeners voted it over the Papago Orange Blossom at several voting events.

“KNIX is more than just a radio station – it’s a fixture in the Phoenix community that continues to impact the lives of residents through music and charitable giving,” said Steve Geofferies, EVP of Programming for iHeartMedia, parent company of KNIX. “Nothing goes better together than country music and beer! There’s no better way to celebrate 50 years in Phoenix, than with Arizona’s hometown brewery, Huss Brewing Co.”

The cans are in stores until the Fall at stores that sell Huss Brewing beers.

“As a local company, we are committed to supporting Arizona’s legacy companies – those that help shape our unique culture and become part of our identity,” said Huss Brewing Co. co-founder Leah Huss. “Celebrating our own 5th anniversary along with 50 years of KNIX is a huge accomplishment and we’re excited to play a part in commemorating this great milestone.”

Huss Brewing Company announces new Phoenix taproom and purchase of Papago Brewing Company.

It’s been a busy couple of months for Jeff and Leah Huss, owners of Tempe, Arizona based Huss Brewing Company as they announced in August their plans for a new taproom in Phoenix then a September announcement that they purchased Scottsdale’s Papago Brewing Company.

The Huss’s anticipate a December opening of their flagship Uptown Taproom in newly re-designed Uptown Plaza in central Phoenix. Huss Brewing’s craft beers will be the focus of the Phoenix taproom and will include award-winning beers such as Scottsdale Blonde & Husstler Milk Stout. New beers will be made exclusively for the Phoenix location. According to Jeff “I think it’s cool that we can have some beers only available at the Tempe Taproom, and now have unique selection(s) at the Uptown Taproom”. Jeff also serves as Huss’s brewmaster.

Proximity to Uptown Plaza Restaurants

The Uptown Taproom will be close to Lou Malnati’s Pizza and other restaurants including Shake Shack in the Uptown Plaza. According to Leah, “Just like our Tempe Taproom, we wanted to create a comfortable space where people can relax, enjoy our beers and enjoy food from a multitude of area restaurants, it’s almost like relaxing at home an ordering delivery.” The taproom will have a kitchen that will serve light bites.

Acquiring of Papago Brewing Company

In early September the Huss’s announced they were acquiring the Papago Brewing Company’s brand of beers that include the best-selling Orange Blossom wheat beer. With the acquisition of Papago Brewing, Huss’ newly formed Huss Family of Beers will be Arizona’s 3rd largest brewery after Four Peaks and SanTan. Huss Brewing has brewed the beers for Papago Brewing for several years as the did not have enough space at their Scottsdale bottle shop and taproom which Leah was co-owner and operator of for 14 years. The Scottsdale taproom was not part of the acquisition.

“Most important, ” says Leah Huss, “acquiring the Papago beer brands ensures that the brand will stay in Arizona and not be bought by an out-of-state or international conglomerate.”
