2012 Urban Uco Malbec- Tempranillo

urban uco

This 50/50 blend of Malbec & Tempranillo is brought to us by Ortega Gil-Fournier family from Spain who founded the La Consulta, Mendoza based winery in the early 2000’s. Grapes come from their 3 estates at the base of the Andes Mountains in the Uco valley, along with purchasing fruit from other local growers. Hand harvested these grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats before aging for 3 months in French oak barrels and stored in their underground cellar. With elevations almost 4,000 feet above sea level and little rainfall the vineyards rely on thawing snow from the Andes.

Big and bold, this wine has black currants and minerals along with obvious tannins that give it a long, lingering finish. This wine should pair well with grilled meats and for under $20 is a steal.
