Mediterranean diet favorite dishes return to Pita Jungle

For the last 25 years Pita Jungle has been serving up healthy Mediterranean diet inspired dishes. Many customers have their favorite’s over the years but they tend to come and go with seasons. As part of their Seasonal Kitchen Crafts Menu they’ve brought back many fan favorites from the past.

All 23 locations throughout Arizona are serving dishes with a balance of Mediterranean diet and global cuisine. The menu is popular with all dietary needs including keto, paleo, vegan and gluten-free. The seasonal menu will be available thru the rest of the year. Dishes include……

  • Cauliflower Hummus (V) – cauliflower, tahini, garlic, evoo, lemon juice, cucumbers, pita (gluten free with blue corn chips).
  • All Veggie Pita Pocket – avocado, baby greens, seasonal mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, red onion, sprouts, tabbouleh, lemon vinaigrette, in a pita pocket, severed with tahini (vegan with no tabbouleh, gluten-free with gluten-free pita upcharge).
  • Bone Broth Ramen with Shirataki Noodles (GF) – beef bone broth, with miso, kimchi, red onion, gluten-free soy sauce, garlic and ginger, shirataki noodles, spinach, green onions.
  • Ginger Stir Fry with Shirataki Noodles (GF) – stir-fried fresh vegetables and kimchi, shirataki noodles, spicy ginger sauce, beef bone broth, fresh cilantro, fresh mint, pea sprouts (vegan with no kimchi and no beef broth).

  • Wood-Fired Medchilada (GF) – savory garlic-cilantro chicken in a beef bone broth enchilada sauce, cheddar and feta, turmeric cauliflower rice, cabbage-kale super greens, fresh jalapenos, radish, pico de gallo, pine nuts, gluten-free pita.
  • Chicken Avocado Pita Tostada with Cauliflower Hummus – grilled and chopped marinated all-natural chicken breast, avocado, cilantro-avocado crema, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled red onions, bell peppers, cauliflower hummus, feta, pine nuts, baby arugula, pea sprouts, chipotle vinaigrette, pita tostada or low-carb pita or gluten-free pita (vegetarian option without chicken.
  • Mediterranean Tuna Pita Pocket – albacore tuna, avocado, seasonal mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell pepper, red onion, tabbouleh, lemon vinaigrette, pea sprouts, in a pita pocket.

Tickets available for Tuscon’s SAVOR Food and Wine Festival

If you’re not familiar with the Tuscon food and wine scene now is a great opportunity to get to know it. This Saturday’s SAVOR Food and Wine Festival showcases southern Arizona’s restaurants, wineries, breweries and distilleries at the Tucson Botanical Garden. Over 60 participants will be offering tastes and sips of their food and drinks.

The 6th annual event promotes the region as a serious player on the national food scene. The festival is co-sponsored by the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance, Local First Arizona and Tuscon Botanical Garden. The three non-profits promote the cultural uniqueness that southern Arizona has to offer.

“The Savor Food and Wine Festival not only showcases the rich and delicious culture of the region, but highlights the importance of supporting these local food businesses in our daily lives,” said Kimber Lanning, Founder and Executive Director of Local First Arizona. “Much of Southern Arizona’s local economy is driven by those in the dining, culinary, and local foods industries. Without them, we wouldn’t have the diverse culture and economy that we see today in Tucson and beyond.”

Tastes and sips at SAVOR Food & Wine Festival

Festival goers can expect to taste delicious foods from new restaurants along with long time Tucson favorites. A few of the restaurants participating include…..

Pastiche Modern Eatery, Tohono Chul Garden Bistro, Omni Tuscon National, Merkin Vineyards Pizza Wagon, Casino Del Sol, El Cisne Cocina de Mexico and Brushfire BBQ.

Wineries, distilleries and breweries include….. Barrio Brewing, Caduceus Cellars, Pillsbury Wine Co. Whiskey Del Bac, Mother Road Brewing Co. and Adventurous Stills.

Guests will also enjoy educational food demonstrations, live music, unique art displays and a raffle. Admission includes Butterfly Magic and the “Out of the Woods” exhibit on tour from the New York Botanical Garden.

Free cheese for outdoor diners at The Melting Pot

The calendar says it’s the end of October but the day time temperatures still feel as if it were May, regardless The Melting Pot is getting ready for the cooler temperatures by offering Free cheese from 5pm-7pm on Wed. Nov. 2nd –  Sun. Nov. 6th. Those customers willing to sit on the outdoor patio at 2 Arizona locations will receive 1 free cheese for dipping. Patio tables are available on a first come, first serve basis. The restaurant offers a variety of cheeses including Wisconsin Cheddar and Bacon Gorgonzola.

World of Beer to open stores in Gilbert & Tuscon in late 2013

Beer drinkers rejoice as World of Beer www.wobusa.com has plans to open stores in Tucson and Gilbert before the end of the year. This happens a little over a year after they opened their 1st Arizona location in Tempe with Tucson opening in October and Gilbert in November. Since opening it’s 1st store in 2007 in Tampa, Florida and has since opened dozens of stores throughout the country building on the craft beer enthusiasm and growth seen in the beer industry.

2012 Champ to Defend Title as Fastest Wiener in the West at 18th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals

More than 50 of Arizona’s fastest dachshunds will converge on Feb. 23 to race in the 18th Annual Wiener Nationals – Arizona Regionals race! After winning the regionals, Phoenix dog, Oscar went on to earn the 2012 championship title competing against the victors from nine other regional races held throughout the year. Now he must guard his title as the “Winning Wiener” in 2013. Can he do it again or will another AZ dog claim the top spot?

Returning Champ Oscar “My Wiener” of Phoenix will go “nose to nose” in a race to the finish line on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Tucson, Ariz. for the 18th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals – Arizona Regionals. Oscar will once again be competing against Arizona’s fastest dachshunds for a chance to defend his title as Arizona’s “Top Dog.” More than 50 dogs will race but only one will go from “wiener to winner,” taking home $250 and a trip to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego for the 2013 Finals!

New restaurant alert in Tucson….Social House Kitchen & Pub (SoHo) has opened it’s doors.

Restaurants come and go and in Tucson a new has opened, Social House Kitchen & Pub (SoHo) www.soho-az.com opened about a month ago. The kitchen is led by Chef Ben Lieberman whom has been leading San Diego’s dining scene at restaurants that include Searsucker and Burlap and has also included stints in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

With creative appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees, SoHo offers lunch, Happy hour and dinner uses high quality meats and seafood for its menu that include a broad selection of sandwiches and burgers. “Each item on our menu has been carefully thought-out and perfected,” said Chef Lieberman. “Our focus is on home cooked food made from scratch. The result is entrées that are reminiscent of traditional comfort food while also celebrating a modern upscale gastro pub approach to food and service.”

Through his experience is various cuisines Lieberman enjoys showcasing the unique flavors that are created by combining ingredients in an innovative way that is perfect for SoHo. Some of those menu items include Crispy Ahi Tuna with apple kimchi, tempura asparagus & soy caramel ($18.00), Social House Extreme Burger with foie gras, fried egg, truffle aioli & provolone ($18.00), Firecracker Duck Drums with spicy hoisin bbq, green onions & sesame seeds ($10.00), Bacon & Eggs with spicy hoisin bbq, pork belly, poached egg, brioche & brown butter hollandaise ($11.00), Spiced Venison Carpaccio with pecorino, fried caper, yoke & truffle aioli ($11.00) and the Blackened Salmon Tataki with roasted sweet corn relish & horseradish whipped cream ($10.00).
