Velvet taco

Last year restaurateur Tommy Plato recently closed his Gelato Spot on Scottsdale Rd. and last week he shut his Second Floor Liquor Bar for a favorable deal from another restaurant. Don’t worry Tommy’s will be nearby focusing his efforts on a new restaurant, The Ends around the corner where his revived Kazmierz Whiskey Bar was. Dallas’s Velvet Taco will open its first Arizona location in the former Second Story and Gelato Spot space.

The Ends is inspired by the love of traveling of the late Anthony Bourdain who traveled to the ends of the earth and still made time for his first loves, family and friends. “We want to bring a concept rooted in the culture of experience and travel to the beginning of The Ends,” said Owner and Visionary Tommy Plato. “I feel grateful for the last 10 years that the community allowed Second Story to create lifelong memories with family, friends, and companions. My commitment is to continue creating a space allowing for rich life experiences over great food and drink.” The Ends is scheduled to open on June 1st.

The eclectic menu will come from Executive Chef Jordano Sessions and the culinary team. A menu of global flavors fused together will offer guests artisanal main courses and a couple of holdovers from second story including the Life Changing Biscuits and Tomahawk Tuesdays. A pasta room will be on display showing the house-made and hanging pastas. A private dining room called “The Bourdain Room” will offer family style dining experiences as they journey through the entire menu.

Kazmierz was closed in the summer of 2023 to make way for the new restaurant that is getting a new look. The airy mid-century atmosphere will be dimly lit with an interior offering a lush green setting and walls adorned by art from renowned artists Mike Wilcox, Milana Blackman, Leah Newton and Lily Reeves. Plato looks forward to the Second Story staff joining him at the new restaurant. Dinner at The Ends will be served 7 days a week and Happy hour Monday – Friday. Weekend brunch will be offered in the Fall. For more information visit there website.
