The transformation in south Scottsdale continues as a new brunch spot, The Eleanor opens September 4th to the delight of the local neighborhood. The new spot on Hayden Rd. south of Osborn is part of the Clayton Companies portfolio of properties and businesses that include Clayton House and Fate Brewing’s locations in Scottsdale, Tempe & Phoenix. Once opened Head Chef & Partner Kent Macaulay won’t be looking to reinvent the wheel but to serve quality food with much of the ingredients made in-house including smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce.
Clayton Companies again partnered with Aline Architecture Projects to re-purpose a former dry cleaner and car wash into The Eleanor and a neighboring yet to be named restaurant. “We kept the historic low-profile roof, while brightening the space with new garage doors to the patio and a high wall with clerestory windows to bring in the natural light,” explains Aline Co-founder Brian Krob. “Light woods and retro colors bring the mid-century vibe. We’re looking forward to seeing this become a South Scottsdale community gathering spot!” adds Brian Laubenthal.
Local love at The Eleanor
The south Scottsdale location means a lot to Chef Macaulay who grew up in the neighborhoods surrounding The Eleanor and Co-Owner Steve Ellefson who came to the area from Nebraska and fell in love with the area. Both still live in south Scottsdale creating memories with their families and hoping their guests at the new eatery will do the same. After Macaulay graduated from Scottsdale Culinary Institute he worked locally for LGO Hospitality for over 10 years at Chelsea’s Kitchen, La Grande Orange and also working on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas. He got his start in the kitchen at Randy’s Restaurant, a few miles north of his new restaurant and working at Nello’s on Shea Blvd. before heading to culinary school. Ellefson’s restaurant experience includes working with Charleston’s Restaurants around the valley before joining Clayton Companies.
Booths and counter service will allow customers to linger and enjoy dining in while prepared foods and more will be available for take-out. A coffee bar will serve San Diego roaster Jame’s Coffee for take-out or dine-in along with pastries. The Eleanor is at 3207 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale 85251 and will be open daily at 7 a.m.
