Afternoon Tea for Mother’s Day at STK Steakhouse

Still looking for a restaurant to take mom on Sunday? The cool Scottsdale restaurant hosts a traditional tea starting with a glass of  champagne ($89 & $99) or prosecco ($69) followed by a selection of hot tea and tower of petite sandwiches, scones and desserts. Personal chef Cory Oppold’s new restaurant is open and taking reservations near Scottsdale Rd. & Shea Blvd. The highly acclaimed chef and Food Network’s “Chopped” winner serves a 5 course tasting menu Tuesday and Wednesday’s for $135 and 10-course menu Thursday-Saturday for $190. Wines paired by sommelier Nick Padua are additional an additional charge. May 28th Oppold will debut his Sunday brunch, Morning Would. His take on brunch favorites will be served in 6-courses from 10 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. for $75.

Spitz Mediterranean opens its first location Arizona

Desert Ridge Marketplace is where you can find healthy and modern Mediterranean street food found around Europe. Wraps, gyros, rice salads & bowls, falafel, hummus and more from this California based concept. Started almost 15 years ago when a couple of college friends who studied and traveled in Europe wanted to bring this type of food home to the U.S. Serving sangria, beer & wine Spitz is participating in DRM’s Sips & Stroll program allowing guests to take their drinks outside the restaurant. The fast casual restaurant is located on the east end near the AMC Theaters.

Verde Valley Wine Festival is back for its 5th year Mother’s Day weekend

Update: Re-scheduled for Nov. 6th & 7th.

There’s no better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with a glass of wine or two with dear old mom. You can purchase tickets for you and your mom for the 5th annual Verde Valley Wine Festival, Saturday May 9th 2020. Four Eight Wineworks presents the festival that will host 20 Arizona wineries along with local breweries, distilleries, food trucks and restaurants. The festival takes place at Clarkdale Town Park from 12 – 5 p.m. Each year the festival donates part of the proceeds to a local non-profit, this year’s festival benefits The Arizona Vignerons Alliance and the Arizona Winegrowers Association. Participating wineries, food trucks and other vendors is will be announced soon.

“Wine’s economic impact on our state demands more resources to defend, protect and grow this incredibly delicate, yet robust industry in Arizona,” said David Baird, festival director and co-owner of oDDity Wine Collective. “Guests fly in from all over the world to attend this festival. For many people, the first time they understand the depth of Arizona wine is at our festival. We’re honored to be a conduit for that magic.”

General Admission tickets for the Verde Valley Wine Festival are available on-line for $35 in advance and $45 at the festival. VIP tickets are $125 and get you early entry at 11 a.m., access to the VIP Lounge, additional tastings and a swag bag. Platinum VIP tickets are $199 and include dinner and live auction on Friday May 8th. Festival goers are encouraged to spend the night and accommodations for glamping are available on the website.

Grimaldi’s Pizzeria rolls out its first ever seasonal menu

Just in time for Mother’s Day and the summer Scottsdale’s own Grimaldi’s Pizzeria is bringing its customers their first ever seasonal menu. The summer inspired menu is available until July 31st and features new salads, pizzas, beverages and desserts.

“One of the best parts of summer is the fresh berries,” said Cory Lattuca, executive chef of Grimaldi’s Pizzeria. “These tangy, yet sweet, dishes are a great addition to our seasonal menu.”

Berries will be included on such menu items including Strawberry Spinach Salad with Feta cheese, red onions, toasted almonds, strawberries tossed in a strawberry vinaigrette. Strawberry Cheesecake and Blueberry Cobbler Cheesecake are on the dessert menu and come garnished with the fresh fruit in addition to the sweet flavored swirl. Fresh strawberries and blueberries are also the key ingredient in the Summertime Sangria for a cold and refreshing thirst quencher during out hot summer months.

On Mother’s Day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sierra Bonita Grill will be serving its signature Southwestern brunch dishes, plus specials that have been created for the occasion. Popular selections include the Southwestern Benedict: panko crusted eggs atop green chile beer biscuits, topped with Cure 81 Ham, and roasted poblano hollandaise, served with roasted root vegetables ($14).
The Atole Pinon Hotcakes are griddled blue corn masa and toasted pinenuts cakes, topped with strawberry butter, served with bacon ($10). Brunch begins with a choice of appetizer including Lobster Bisque, Modern Caesar or Fresh Seasonal Fruits; followed by a choice of entrée including Prime Rib with a Trio of Sauces or Baked Brioche French Toast with a Walnut Crisp, among other mouth-watering choices, and ends with a choice of dessert including a classic White Chocolate Bread Pudding.
