House of Tricks owners retiring and closing in 2022.
Robin & Bob Trick have been a staple on the downtown Tempe food & wine scene for over 3 decades, before there was a food & wine scene. They’ve decided to retire and broke the sad news on their Facebook page that they will be closing their popular restaurant at the end of June 2022. Until then they will continue to serve happy hour & dinner Mondays thru Saturdays. Thank you for your contribution to the Tempe food & wine scene, they deserve a great send off into retirement.
Grimaldi’s Pizzeria launches winter for a limited time
Margarita or Margherita no matter how you spell it, it’s on the new menu at all Arizona locations through March 7th. New menu items include the Margherita Pizza, Arugula Sunset Salad, a Black Cherry & a Reese’s Peanut Buttercup Cheesecake, Black Cheery Margarita & Peach Margarita.
Romeo’s Third Tuesday dinner continues next week
The popular monthly dinner at Romeo’s Euro Cafe in downtown Gilbert is on for next Tuesday, December 21st. The 3 course menu features Mousse of Duck Foie Gras, Pork Shank Latino & Nutella Chocolate Cheesecake. All courses are paired with wine and the dinner is only $39 per person. Thai Chili 2 Go opens newest location Saturday
The west valley gets the 12th location of the popular fast casual concept when it opens in Peoria on Saturday December 18th. The first 50 guests on the 18th get a free entree, then from 19th – 31st guests stopping in to the new location at 16955 N. 75th Ave. will get free order of Thai Dumplings with the purchase of an entree. Garden Bar PHX is now open
Holiday cocktails and tasting boards are available at the new cocktail bar from Kim Hasaarud. The downtown Phoenix cottage at 822 N. 6th Ave. is open Thurs- Saturday from 5-10 p.m. and will offer brunch on Sunday’s at 11 a.m. starting December 26th. One of the valley’s favorite restaurants has stood the test of time and is celebrating with a weeks worth of specials and soiree to celebrate this milestone. Tempe’s House of Tricks celebrates its 30th anniversary on September 6th by bringing back some of its favorite dishes from its 30 years serving unique and satisfying food.
When Bob and Robin Trick opened House of Tricks in 1987 it was the first fine dining restaurant in Tempe. Since then they’ve hosted many graduation dinners, special events, wine tastings and charities functions while still serving farm to table dishes from its small kitchen to diners enjoying the beautiful and lush patio setting just off Mill Ave. in downtown Tempe.

Several recognizable names in the valley’s restaurant scene worked at House of Tricks including executive chef and owner of Crudo & Okra Cullen Campbell, chef Kelly Fletcher and Brent Karlicek who oversees the beverage program at Upward Projects (Postine Wine Cafe, The Windsor, Federal Pizza and more).
A week long of favorites from the past
With the help of staff, regular customers, family and friends the restaurant will be serving favorite dishes that have been 86’d over the years but will return the week of September 5th- 15th. This opportunity to try dishes will give fans of the restaurant an opportunity to stroll down memory lane and enjoy meals they never thought they’d have again.
Guests can also look forward to a special craft cocktail to commemorate the 30th anniversary created by their in-house mixologist.
30th anniversary soiree
The Trick’s also have a party being planned for the evening of November 5th where guests will be asked to don cocktail attire for an evening of wine, dancing, music and hor d’oeuvres. Sam Pillsbury owner & winemaker of Pillsbury Wine Co. will be pouring his wines alongside the flavorful foods prepared by the House of Tricks kitchen on Thurs. Jan. 12th 2017.
The evening will include a four course dinner along with wines direct from the winery in Cochise County where Sam grows and produces his award winning wines.
As you sip your wine & savor the flavorful foods Sam will be talking about his wines, the Arizona wine industry and why the wine & food for the dinner were paired with each other.
The setting for the dinner is the highly acclaimed House of Tricks in downtown Tempe that is know for it’s seasonal menu of local ingredients, creative wine list and intimate dining patio dining.
