In what seems like a smooth transition El Patron New Mexican Restaurant & Cantina has taken over the spot that was Bandolero Cocina in Scottsdale’s Shops at Gainey Village. It’s the first Arizona location Jimmy and Nadine Daslakos, owners of the Albuquerque based restaurant company.
“After being in the restaurant business for three decades, we are thrilled to bring El Patron to Arizona,” said Jimmy. “We felt the rich culinary New Mexican cuisine was a perfect addition to the food landscape in the Valley.”
The menu at El Patron New Mexican features family recipes that include starters such as Tostadas layered with chile con queso, Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, black beans, tomato, onion, and jalapeño. Braised beef or chicken Taquitos are also available to share. Slow roasted-Southwest Cured Red Chile BBQ Pork Ribs is something you don’t always find in New Mexican style cuisine and sounds good. Not for the faint of heart is their Signature Serrano Cream Sauce with house-made warm sopapillas served with the meal or with honey for a nice, sweet treat. Chile Rellenos, Green Chile Chicken Lasagna, Huevos Rancheros and a red Chile braised pork shoulder plate are all customer favorites. And of course there is authentic New Mexican red and green Chile sauces. Tacos, enchiladas, burritos and a daily special give guests plenty to choose from and Margaritas, house crafted cocktails, beers on tap and wine help with keeping the heat from getting to hot.
“Our dishes are inspired by the flavors passed down through generations,” said Nadine. “Today, we continue to highlight those time-honored recipes, infusing them with a dash of modern flair.”
El Patron New Mexican Restaurant & Cantina opens 7 days a week at 11 .am. and offers all day happy hour every day in the bar and on the patio. The restaurant is at 8977 N. Scottsdale Rd. and more information can be found at their website.
