National Martini Day is Monday June 19th

Whether you prefer your Martini shaken or stirred this classic cocktail is celebrating its existence on Monday June 19th with National Martini Day.

Considered one of the best known alcoholic cocktails its origins are a bit hazy but some go back to the 1800’s with an Italian vermouth producer and a San Francisco bartender. Popularity grew in the Roaring Twenties and the again in the 1960s with the help of James Bond preferring his Martini “shaken not stirred’ in novels in the 1950s and but mentioned in films “Dr. No” and “Goldfinger”in the early 1960s.

Originally made with dry gin & dry vermouth many variations are now created using vodka and flavored vodkas. Two local restaurants are celebrating National Martini Day on the 19th with their unique versions of the cocktail.

Liberty Market’s “Texas Chainsaw Chili” Burger & 31 daze of burgers

As the dog days of summer are still around despite school starting & pre season football kicking off restaurants still have to be creative with ways to bring in the customers. At Liberty Market in downtown Gilbert, partners Joe Johnson & executive chef David Traina have embarked on the 3rd annual “Burger Daze” with a different burger for each of the 31 days in August. With 31 burgers to create they had to be creative and breakout some recipes they’ve had for years such as David’s chili recipe for the Texas Chainsaw Chili burger from last week. This year they’ve added some vegan burgers and seafood too. For a full line up of the burgers for the rest of the month check out http://www.examiner.com/article/liberty-market-gilbert-celebrates-burger-daze-for-31-days-august
