October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and three local Phoenix restaurants are raising money all month-long. By purchasing a featured menu item you will be helping to fight a disease that affects us all. Both non-profits are also local to the Phoenix area.

They provide free wigs, mammograms and treatment and is benefiting from Babbo Italian Eatery. When you order the Pasta Valducci part of the proceeds will be donated for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Lemonade, that cool refreshing drink and one of my favorite beverages celebrates it’s own day on Wednesday August 29th. On National Lemonade Juice Day Luci’s Healthy Market Place & Luci’s at the Orchard will donate all proceeds from sales to local school New Way Academy.
The lemonade will be donated by Tempe’s Sun Orchard Juicery and be sold for $5 for an 8 oz. glass. Guests who purchase a glass will be entered to win a Luci’s gift card, hat and shirt.

Most of us remember how much fun it was to go away to summer camp and be with friends. Now that were big kids, this Saturday’s Suds & Slides summer camp themed event let’s us re-live summers of our youth. Mesa’s Riverview Park will host the 21+ event from 5-10 p.m. with water slides, beer pong, giant pillow fights and a lot more.

As memories of last years Slider Throwdown fall deeper into our subconscious we are made aware of this years Throwdown that is slated for Sunday November 12th from 12-3p.m. back at Kierland Commons.
For only $30 each attendees will be able to sample all the sliders and 3 non-alcoholic drink tickets. After tasting the sliders people will be able to vote the “People’s Choice” award along with “slider expert” judges for to see which food truck will wine “Best Slider”.

Proceeds from this years event will be donated to Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation(AFFCF). The money raised will help foster children enjoy their childhood despite unfortunate circumstances.
Kris Jacober, Director of the AFFCF, says, “We help these children through difficult circumstances by providing them with resources and allowing them to take part in enjoyable activities that promote self-esteem.”

Hollis Doherty must have loved ice cream as he now has a flavor named after him at Splurge, the ice cream shop at The Orchard in Phoenix. Hope Through Hollis Mint Chip Ice Cream is named after the 7-year-old whose legacy lives on after Hollis passed away in January from a brain tumor.
Friday September 29th – October 1st Splurge will be donating all sales of the ice cream to the Hope Through Hollis organization his parents Shane and Shawnee started to raise money for this rare disease’s research.

Hope Through Hollis has partnered with TGen to help find the cure for the Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) tumor. The money raised through the sales of Hope Through Hollis Mint Chip will be used to fund research for the cure where the average life span is 1 year after diagnosis. Hollis passed away after 9 months of fighting.

After next weekends fundraiser Splurge will continue to serve the mint chip ice cream and donate a portion to sales to the organization.
Hard to believe that in only a few weeks kids in Arizona will be returning to school. All 5 Phoenix area locations and a Flagstaff location of Someburros will be donating 20% of all pre-tax food sales on Wed. July 19th to the Arizona Children’s Association.
All locations will also be collecting school supplies including backpacks, crayons, pencils and more for children in foster care.

In less than 2 years, Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill has raised over $150,000 for local charities with its Cornbread for a Cause fundraising campaign. Its current cause is to give proceeds of the popular cornbread to the United Phoenix Firefighter Charities through June 31st at all 5 Phoenix area locations.
To bring attention to this partnership firefighters will be pulling shifts serving the warm cornbread and pouring drinks to guests at 3 Z’Tejas locations around Phoenix in coming weeks. Thurs. April 27th at the Chandler location is the first of the 3 visits by the guest bartenders followed by Thurs. May 18th at the Shea & Tatum location in Phoenix and the final opportunity is on Wed. June 14th at the downtown Tempe location. All 3 shifts will be from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Money raised will help UPFC continue to serve local communities by installing pool fences and smoke detectors, host food and coat drives and support children with neuromuscular disease by sending them to camp in the summer. Food truck chefs get out of their comfort zone on Saturday April 29th for a good cause as the Beer for Brains Foundation raises money for brain cancer research and awareness with its EPICURIAD Spring 2017 Food, Craft Beers & Wine Pairings Event.
12 food truck chefs including Left Coast Burrito Co., Saffron Jak and Electric Sliders will leave their trucks for a full and modern kitchen experience at Allstate Appliances in north Scottsdale to compete against each other to create a new dish for the gourmet pairing competition.
The night begins at 6:30 p.m. with VIP attendees getting a chance to see a 2 chef face off between executive chef Jordan Murray of Rock A Belly, Food Network’s “Street Eats” Season 5 vs Chef Tim Cobb of United Lunchadores, Street Food Chef of the Year in 2015. The chefs will flip a coin to see if they will be cooking with beer or wine in addition to the ingredients provided with 35 minutes to create a dish before the main event.
At 7:30 p.m. main event begins where attendees will be able to sample gourmet food, craft beers and wine. They will have the chance to vote for “Best Pairing” to see if beer or wine is the preferred pairing and “Best Entree” based on taste and presentation. Gold, Silver & Bronze medals will be awarded to the Top 3 winning chefs who will the go head to head with restaurant chefs at the Fall 2017 EPICURIAD event.
The event is one of Beer for Brains Foundation multiple events around the country where the partner with breweries, medical facilities, and other partners to raise money and support ground breaking research at GBM Agile Tempe headquarters on the campus of Arizona State University.
Mojo Yogurt and The Mollen Foundation have partnered for the 1st “Create a Healthy T-Shirt Design” contest on Saturday, September 24th from 12 noon 2pm at Mojo Yogurt’s Mill Ave. & Tempe Marketplace locations.
The winning design will be featured on all T-shirts for the Mollen Mile and must include a picture of a vegetable, an exercise and include the words “Mollen Mile”. The Mollen Mile is a mile long run for kids as part of the 3TV Phoenix 10K & 1/2 Marathon. Phoenix Dr. Art Mollen started the Phoenix 10K 40 years ago to promote healthy eating and exercise through community involvement. Dr. Mollen is also the founder of The Mollen Foundation, a non-profit organization that encourages healthy living for children and their families by adopting healthy living activities including healthy eating and physical activities both of which have life long benefits. The non-profit Scottsdale League of the Arts will be hosting a Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed Wine Country Brunch at The Camby Hotel in Phoenix on Sunday September 25th from 11am- 2pm. Brunch will be prepared by not only The Camby’s culinary team but from restaurants, The Herb Box and Arcadia Farms. Guests will be able to sip Mimosa’s from the Mimosa Bar, Champagne and wines paired with for the culinary delights served.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme
The classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed brunch will allow guests to dress up like Audrey Hepburn’s character Holly Golightly and others from the early 1960’s era. There will be a Audrey Hepburn look-a-like to have photos taken with the film playing in the background. Games and other fun will be played and had during the 3 hour event. “We are excited to have one of our community favorite events; the Wine Country Brunch as a featured event this fall. The Scottsdale League of the Arts
All money raised will go to Scottsdale League of the Arts as it support of the arts and arts education through various organizations throughout the Phoenix area. Wine Country Brunch is just one of several fund raising events Scottsdale League of the Arts hosts every year. Others include the week long Scottsdale Culinary Festival in the spring and The Friends of James Beard Dinner. Over $4 million has been raised and awarded to Ballet Arizona, Childsplay and Free Arts of Arizona along with other organizations.
