Market Street Kitchen and Liberty Station celebrate National Burger Day all month

Keeler Hospitality Group, the family owned company that owns north Scottsdale’s Liberty Station and Market Street Kitchen love a good burger just as much as I do. So much so that they’ve decided to celebrate National Burger Day for the entire month of May.

Weekly burger specials

Each restaurant will run a weekly special burger for $16 and the ultimate burger deal on the 28th. Below is the weekly line-up of burgers for each restaurant. Both restaurants open daily at 11 a.m. to accommodate your burger craving.

PNPK opens in north Scottsdale featuring Craft Sliders and Deviled Eggs

PNPK owner Kellie Pruitt took a personal tragedy and turned it into something positive when she re-opened her Grape Bistro as the new PNPK after a 2 year hiatus. The new full service restaurant and wine bar in north Scottsdale opened in late March on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Rd. and Pinnacle Peak.

Tragedy to PNPK

When a family tragedy occurred in July 2016 Kellie stepped away from running her Grape Bistro to heal. Hiking the nearby Pinnacle Peak(hence the name PNPK) on a regular basis helped her heal and realize something good should come of her situation.

“Earlier this year, I knew I either needed to close or do something new, in part to throw myself into something creative to help myself heal,” said Pruitt. “PNPK has been transformational for me, and now I hope for the Airpark restaurant scene as well.

With its close proximity to the Scottsdale Airport, Pruitt figured flights of sharable plates would be the way for her new place to take off.

The restaurant features 13 Sliders to build a flight from and  7 Devilish Eggs to choose from along with Bruschetta Flights, Charcuterie Flights and more for guest to enjoy a variety of flavors.

Guests can mix & match sliders served on petite Brioche buns such as Crispy Hot Fried Chicken, Short Rib French Dip, Bacon Jam with Angus Beef just to name a few of the variety of proteins between the buns. Sliders can also be served on gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps.

The deviled eggs are not your traditional  eggs with specialties being the Asian Wasabi and citrus slaw, Smoked Salmon with capers & chives and White truffle oil and chives. During Happy Hours guests can enjoy three eggs for $5.

Custom wine & beer flights focus on craft beers and wines from around the world. With 30 wines by the glass and 150 more selections by the bottle offering wine drinkers good value or the opportunity to splurge on that special bottle.

The creative cocktail menu pays homage to the surrounding desert and mountains with drinks that include…..

  • The Granite Summit: Bourbon mixed with fresh cherries that have been muddled with vanilla, a touch of sugar and topper of club soda
  • The Trailblazer: Gin combined with fresh strawberries, lemon, basil and a hit of club soda
  • The Gila Monster: A combination of jalapeño simple syrup, grapefruit juice, lime, tequila and sparkling wine (named because it’s got bite!)
  • Hi Jolly: Veev Acai Liqueur is the star here and mixed with fresh mint, lemon and blueberries for a “spirited” antioxidant kick.

A favorite is the signature cocktail  “Tickle Me PNPK Punch” made with sparkling wine, Arizona Prickly Pear and ginger ale. A $1 of each punch is donated to The Friends of Pinnacle Peak Park which is a group of volunteers that help maintain and care for the trail on a daily basis.

Broadway Burger & Beer special at Miracle Mile Deli

If you follow me on Instagram @SandyWass quite often you’ll see  burger pics I’ve eaten. It should come as no surprise that when I heard Miracle Mile Deli was doing a week-long burger & beer special I wanted to know more and spread the word. The Broadway Burger & Beer Special is the family owned deli’s way of saying “Welcome to Spring” and the outdoor grilling season.

Hand Cut Burgers & Chophouse celebrates its first anniversary.

Anniversaries are worth celebrating especially if it’s a restaurants first anniversary as many restaurants don’t make through their first year. Hand Cut Burgers & Chophouse has successfully made it to their first anniversary and is celebrating and the public is welcome.

The celebration will take place on Friday, November 10th from 5-7p.m. at the Scottsdale Waterfront restaurant. Complimentary appetizers and a hosted champagne bar are part of the celebration and DJ Thomas James will be providing music.

If you plan to stick around for dinner reservations are recommended but not necessary to enjoy the festivities.

August is here as Liberty Market’s Burger Daze returns

Every August Gilbert’s Liberty Market serves up 31 different burgers for its annual Burger Daze promotion and this August is no different.

Planning for 31 burgers

Planning started shortly after 2016’s Burger Daze ended as executive chef David Traina started thinking of combinations for new burgers while also including a few favorites on this years list. In January chef Traina started to make the burgers for consideration to see how they went from paper to palate in an effort to finalize this years burgers. Chef Traina should know about burgers as he was Delux Burger’s first executive chef before making his way to Liberty Market.

According to Traina ” I’m really excited about this years burgers and we start with a favorite from last year, the  Coffee burger the Beehive cheese is an awesome addition to that one. Our End of Daze burger is going to be worth the wait.”

Gift card challenge

Owner Joe Johnson knows how to motivate his customers to come by Liberty Market on a daily basis to try each days special burger. Save those receipts as Joe is giving away a $50 Liberty Market gift card to those that come in and eat 10 burgers during the month. If you can stomach all 31 burgers you’ll have earned a $250 gift card. Those that accomplish either one of these challenges will have until the end of the first week of September to provide the receipts for verification and get their Liberty Market gift card.

Most of the burgers are made from local, natural ground chuck beef while others are made from buffalo meat and a vegan black bean pattie. Below is the list of all 31 burgers , one for each day of the month.

 #1 Tuesday – Coffee Burger: beef patty, Beehive Barely Buzzed Cheese, candied bacon, and onion whipped cream on a hawaiian bun.

 #2 Wednesday – Monte Cristo Burger: beef patty, swiss cheese, shaved ham, strawberry jam and powdered sugar, served open face on griddled bread pudding.

 #3 Thursday – Spanish Burger: beef patty, manchego cheese, chimichurri aioli and sliced Spanish chorizo on panella bun.

 #4 Friday – Ultimate Buffalo Burger: buffalo patty, pickled carrots and celery, St. Pete’s blue cheese, Frank’s Red Hot buffalo sauce on kaiser bun.

 #5 Saturday: Chilaquiles Burger: beef patty, chilaquiles,  sunny side up egg, tomatillo salsa, cotija cheese on a jalapeno ciabatta bun.

 #6 Sunday: Liberty Joe Burger: beef patty, housemade sloppy joe and cheddar cheese on hawaiian bun. 

 #7 Monday: Gordita Burger: beef patty, pico de gallo, lettuce, pepper jack cheese on housemade fried gorditas. Served with tortilla chips.

 #8 Tuesday: California Burger: beef patty, fresh guacamole, lettuce, tomato, and monterey jack cheese on a croissant.

 #9 Wednesday: Shrimp Po’ Boy Burger: two 4 oz patties, fried shrimp, coleslaw, and housemade remoulade on a baguette.

 #10 Thursday: The Thai Ramen Burger: beef patty, ramen noodles, thai basil, cilantro, seasoned pork and red chili peanut sauce on a panella bun.

 #11 Friday – Onion Ring Burger: beef patty, fried onion ring, smoked cheddar, sauteed red onion, potato chips and BBQ sauce on kaiser bun. 

 #12 Saturday – Short Rib Burger: beef patty, braised short ribs, fresh mozzarella and shaved parmesan on ciabatta bun.

 #13 Sunday – Croque Madame Burger: beef patty, shaved ham, swiss, fresh tomato, sunnyside up egg, smothered with bechamel, served open faced on challah toast.

#14 Monday – The Elvis Burger: beef patty, cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, peanut butter, and pickles on a housemade waffle bun.

 #15 Tuesday – The Boursin Burger: beef patty, herbed Boursin Cheese, caramelized onions and fresh arugula on a hawaiian bun.

 #16 Wednesday – The Black Bean Butternut Burger (Vegan): black bean & butternut squash patty, avocado, heirloom tomatoes, and baby greens on a kaiser bun.

Goodyear chefs compete in the James Beard Blended Burger battle

Despite National Hamburger month ending in May, two west valley chefs are just getting started as they compete in the James Beard Blended Burger battle. Goodyear restaurants Eagle’s Nest and Toscana’s Restaurant are rolling up their sleeves representing two of the three Arizona restaurants in the competition. They will be trying to create the winning burger using 2 types of mushrooms as ingredients.

Hail Mary burger

Chef Mary Ahern of Eagle’s Nest see’s her Hail Mary burger as the eventual winner. This 17 ingredient burger blends Portobello and button mushrooms, roasted garlic, thyme and shallots ground with the brisket and jalapeños, garlic and bacon mixed with ground beef.

The burger is then topped with bacon jam, lettuce, house made pickles, red onion, devil dog sauce and slices of American and Havarti cheese all between a Brioche bun. That sounds like more than a mouthful and  like a winner to me.

Toscana’s burger

Eagle’s Nest’s neighbor in the Pebble Creek community Toscana’s Restaurant is building a blended burger of their own.

It will be pan seared with 80/20 ground beef, house smoked mesquite button mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, caramelized onions, shaved lettuce, fresh watercress, apple-wood bacon, aged smoked cheddar cheese, house-made cowboy candy and mayo.

All served between a King’s Hawaiian bun, hope it can handle everything

Another delicious sounding burger and I’m very curious about the cowboy candy.

Local eateries offer up burger deals for National Hamburger Month

Americans eat more than 50 billion, billion with a “b” hamburgers every year and I’m proud to do my part of a couple a dozen a year. Since we couldn’t give it its own year somebody decided to give it all 31 days in the month of May. To salute the American classic several Phoenix area restaurants are celebrating all month with burger deals & even a burger selfie contest.
